Decision Making
A discussion will be held by the existing operators regarding any action that would affect other networks in a significant manner for example adding or removing a link. There must be a majority in agreement for the decision to carry forward and in the case of adding a new link at least one hub must be in agreement and willing to accept the link.
General Behaviour
Every network participating in this program abides by the following rules. If one or more rules are broken by a network, a janus administrator can choose to remove this network from the program. However a discussion should be held before this action takes place unless the requirement is urgent.
Each user joining a shared channel must abide by the rules set by the channel owner and the home network for that channel.
Oper overrides should not be used in any channel that is not owned by the overriding network UNLESS express permission has been granted to do so OR there is an urgent need to intervene. Please bear in mind that users being a nuisance should generally be left to a channel operator anyway.
All networks participating in the program will have at least one representative of their network idling in #Janus-Opers while encouraging other Global O:Line holders to join this channel. Any local operators should not be in this channel.
Networks applying to link should have been running for at least 6 weeks, however exceptions can be made should the network be of suitable quality and well configured.
Networks will not be required to provide a minimum user base, however the existing userbase must consist of good quality chatters and not just a collection of fillers and/or bots.
Networks are strongly advised to run BOPM for security reasons.
If there is an issue resulting in undesired connections and/or behaviour on a network then it should be understood that a Janus administrator has the right to terminate the link to Janus until the issue has been resolved.
Network may run UnrealIRCd, InspIRCd (1.2+ or 2.0+ versions), Charybdis, IRCd-Seven, Ratbox IRCd or Shadow IRCd. It would however be preferred if the network were to be running UnrealIRCd
Basic operator knowledge will be expected of networks joining. This will not be tested however if repeated failings are occurring from the operator team then a decision may be made to terminate the Janus link.
If you are using services with a “Superadmin” function, such as anope, then this must remain off unless it is necessary to use it. If it is necessary to use “Superadmin” then is must be disabled once you are finished using the associated commands. We require this as not only is it a security risk but it provides owner status in all channels which may not be viewed too kindly by users/channel owners
Networks joining will be expected to configure their own link block. You will only be provided the IP, Port and Server Name to use for the hub you will be connected to. If you are unable to write your own link block for your IRCd then it will be assumed that you do not possess the knowledge to correctly run and maintain your network.
Each network will be discussed on its own merits and any of the above guidelines may be adjusted should it be deemed appropriate and/or the network applying to link has been unanimously agreed that it will provide a quality expansion to the existing janus link.
