Hi, I haven't completely visualized how everything should look when it's functioning properly. The one in my radio appears to have at least some function -- the light beam narrows a few millimeters when tuned to a strong station, but I get the impression that there should be more action than this. What complicates this is that this is probably not the original meter (wires leading to it are spliced). Looking at the info at philcorepairbench.com, it looks like I have the newer style meter, but pictures I've seen of this radio's chassis look like it has the older style meter. I read that Philco made at least 5 versions of these things. Is there any way to tell whether mine is electrically interchangeable with the original? Could you play with the value of the shunt resistor to modify the operation of the meter?<P>And one more question. I still can't quite understand how the movement of the vane controls the size of the light and shadow. Please help. Thanks! I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
